4th edition ICTalent Awards once more raised the standard

On Wednesday 25 May 2016, the 4th edition of the ICTalent Awards was being organised by Fontys Hogeschool ICT. The canteen of R5 had been turned into a true ICTalent experience, with matching professional light & sound projections, video productions and decorations. A unique experience for the approximately 220 visitors and 7 participating teams.

ICTalent Awards

ICTalent Awards is the competitive showcase of Fontys Hogeschool ICT! Students from all study programs are being given the chance to show their best work to teachers, media, Partners in Education, fellow-students, other institutions and interested parties. They will do this by means of 2-minute pitches in combination with unique project videos as introductions. After two exciting preliminaries, eventually seven participants will be selected. They competed with each other on 25 May, to win that coveted title of ICTalent 2016.

The winners

After he seven participants had pitched their projects, it was up to the Partners in Education (companies who have a partnership with FHICT) to vote for their favourite contestant. The three groups who had gathered the most votes would be face to face in front of a professional jury, consisting of Gertjan Schouten (Altran), Alex Otten (Estate) and Ellen Minkels (aMate Communications). The three finalists were: Moodbear, Educational Escape Experience and Siemie & Koko. After the jury had interviewed each group for five minutes, they eventually chose the winner: Educational Escape Experience. The Educational Escape Experience is an Escape Room that teaches students in a fun and innovative way how cyber security principles work. The project group actually made a working prototype (which was present on, for instance, events and open days). They proudly took the ICTalent Award home, a cheque of 2000 euro per person and the "Entrepreneurship Award 2016."

Audience Award and Viral Award

Moodbear was the public's favourite and therefore received the "Audience Award 2016." Siemie & Koko won the "Viral Award 2016." Within 24 hours, they generated the most likes on Facebook and the YouTube page of Fontys Hogeschool ICT for their project video.

Acknowledging own talent very important

Ad Vissers, director of Fontys Hogeschool ICT, gave the opening speech. Herein he stressed the importance of teaching students to know, to experience and to acknowledge their own talents. Ad was very happy with the quality of both the pitches and the organisation of the event.

Being proud together

The organisation is also looking back on a successful 4th edition of the ICTalent Awards. "After several months of preparation, the pieces of the puzzle come together and make the puzzle. The final result was more than we had ever expected. It was quite a challenge to turn the canteen of R5 into a true ICTalent-experience for the visitors, but I think we managed very well. The best thing is to see how participants are enjoying a day like this one. There was a lot of enthusiasm this year and that's great to see, that's what you're doing it for and it's very motivating. The goal of the event is to be proud of one another, that's what it's all about. To me all participants are winners, I'm very proud of all of them!" says Maartje van Hees, project leader of the ICTalent Awards.
