Hackathon Business Academy

Fontys Information and Communication Technology
On Thursday 29 June, the Business Academy organised a Hackathon in the auditorium of R5. The Business Academy consists of a number of enthusiastic and highly motivated ICT & Business students. One of those students is Sjoerd van Rongen. “Instead of the regular professionalisation task, we decided with 7 students from different semesters to organise a Hackathon. We first examined how you do this and elaborately researched among students and companies what their expectations would be for such an event. We also arranged the budget, catering, location and facilities through Fontys.

During the Hackathon, students and graduates designed ICT solutions for concrete questions posed by companies. Within our network of Partners in Education, there was enormous interest in the Hackathon. We ultimately selected Atos, Actemium and Accenture to introduce cases. In doing so, we created three streams around Artificial Intelligence, Drones and Virtual & Mixed Reality.

Despite the fact that the vacation period was coming up, we managed to find 50 participants who were willing to work voluntarily. As a team, we included the organising of the Hackathon as part of our argumentation for the Entrepreneurial Behaviour competence. The Hackathon was really fun to organise. We came into contact with many companies and have bolstered our ties as an organisation-team. How entrepreneurial is that?”
