'Flower Power' gives look behind the scenes of Fontys ICT InnovationLab on Koningsdag

Fontys Information and Communication Technology

Digital look inside the Fontys ICT InnovationLab on King's Day

During King's Day 2021, Fontys ICT InnovationLab will show how they can measure and monitor biodiversity using drones and Artificial Intelligence (AI) within the 'Flower Power' project. Fontys lecturer AI Gerard Schouten will discuss this from 14:00 - 14:30 with a number of ICT students who have made contributions to the project in various semesters.

Snapshots

ICT students Vincent Venhuizen and Sueño de Kort have developed a drone application that allows them to image fields of wildflowers and take snapshots of any part of the field. Talia Santos shows how she - from the Applied Data Science minor - created an AI application to automatically recognize flowers. These and other high-tech ICT solutions are aimed at developing affordable, large-scale biodiversity monitoring. In this way, ICT solutions can contribute to reversing the decline in biodiversity.

Hybrid teams

Numerous disciplines, student groups and partners are contributing to the 'Flower Power' project. Important research partners are Naturalis Biodiversity Center and JADS. The starting point for Fontys is always the Fontys ICT InnovationLab: an open, innovative learning environment where practice-oriented research questions within the ICT domain are central. In hybrid teams, students such as Talia, Vincent and Sueño, lecturers and partner companies work together to develop ICT innovation. Research and research skills are thus given a prominent permanent place in the development of every student and professional.

During the Fontys contribution to the program on King's Day, there will be explicit attention for how Fontys ICT InnovationLab cooperates with experts, companies and multidisciplinary teams. And how they jointly contribute to solutions for social problems through practice-based high-tech research.

Registration is not necessary, see the program on the website www.koningsdageindhoven.nl. The session takes place in Digital Room #2.
